Dronetag Unveils RIDER, a Compact Remote ID Receiver for Drone Safety

As drones become more common, Dronetag created the RIDER, which detects and tracks drone activity through a wireless Remote ID receiver system. The portable device helps public safety agencies and drone experts stay aware of their surroundings by finding drones they cannot detect on their own.

Compact Advanced Drone Detection

Weighing only 64 grams (2.25 ounces) and designed for portability, the battery-powered RIDER captures Remote ID signals from any drone, regardless of manufacturer. It transmits real-time position, altitude, speed, and pilot information to the Dronetag mobile app or any UTM (Unmanned Traffic Management) and counter-UAS system.

The device connects via LTE, Bluetooth, or USB-C, ensuring reliable data transmission both online and offline. It features an integrated industrial chip SIM with global LTE-M and NB-IoT coverage, making it suitable for various environments, including private and sensitive operations.

RIDER provides a “Level 0” solution for situational awareness with multiple connectivity options. Its detection range extends up to 3 miles (5 km) with standard antennas and up to 6 miles (10 km) with an optional high-performance antenna. The battery life varies between 6 to 10 hours, depending on usage, making it crucial for operators to plan extended missions accordingly.

While smartphones were initially expected to manage drone detection, their technical limitations have created a demand for specialized devices like the RIDER. However, its effectiveness depends on drones properly broadcasting Remote ID signals, a regulatory requirement that is still evolving within the industry.

The RIDER is particularly useful for two main applications:

  • Public Safety Agencies: Police, fire departments, and other safety units can monitor drone activity in restricted or high-risk areas. While RIDER does not replace advanced counter-drone defense systems, it serves as a portable, real-time situational awareness tool.

Dronetag has priced the RIDER at $899 (€799) during its pre-order period, which runs until mid-March 2025. Distribution through authorized resellers in the US and EU will begin in mid-February. Additionally, Dronetag is developing a stationary version called Dronetag Scout, designed for fixed installations that require persistent drone monitoring. This expansion demonstrates Dronetag’s commitment to enhancing airspace awareness and security.
