I’ve gone from GEPRC’s biggest drone to the tiniest: the GEPRC DarkStar 16. I’ve been waiting for a while for GEPRC to update this series, and they finally did and they packed in DJI’s O4 Pro system. That’s right: O4 Pro, not Light. It comes in a cool orange color, and the best part is it fits in the palm of my hand. FPV is evolving fast. Drones are getting smaller while features keep getting bigger. Today, we’re looking at GEPRC’s latest entry, the DarkStar 16 O4 Pro. In this review I’ll cover what’s in the box, the build quality, how it flies, camera performance, and, most importantly, who this drone is really for.
What’s in the Box
Inside the box you’ll find the DarkStar 16 itself compact, cleanly built, and ready to go. You also get a spare canopy in a gray color, plus a set of ducts. There’s a USB-C to micro USB-C cable, which is a shame because I was hoping for USB-C to USB-C as that is becoming the standard, but at least a cable is provided.
GEPRC also includes a full tools and spares kit, which is impressive for such a tiny drone. You get a set of spare props (the Gemfan 1636-4), a pair of DJI antennas and small backup antennas, tweezers, a hex driver, and a prop removal tool. There’s a ribbon cable and a TPU part likely for a battery strap, a grommet tool, a binding tool, battery pads, and all sorts of screws and grommets and even GEPRC’s famous keychain. A manual and a set of stickers are included if you want to customize your setup. It’s a very generous kit, and GEPRC have clearly thought through what pilots might need when replacing or adjusting parts later.

Build Quality & Design
There’s no denying the DarkStar 16 is absolutely tiny. It uses a small carbon fiber base plate with plastic ducts all around. You can swap the canopy between the bright orange or gray depending on your preference. The O4 Pro unit hangs from the canopy a clever design that makes swapping covers super easy and the frame sits on a four point dampening system using rubber grommets to help reduce vibration.
The battery mounts underneath using an XT30 connector, so if you’re planning on picking one up make sure your charging setup supports XT30. The props are Gemfan 1636-4, which give the craft a punchy but controlled feel. Overall, it feels solid for its size: you’re not going to crash like a 5-inch rig, but it’s well built, portable, and the design is smart.
Weight & Battery
I don’t even need scales to tell you this little guy is going to sit well under the magic 250 g number. I don’t actually have scales on me right now, so let’s do some basic math: the drone weighs about 86 g (±5 g depending on manufacturing variance). The recommended battery from GEPRC a 2S 530 mAh high voltage pack weighs about 29 g. That brings the total to roughly 115 g, comfortably under 250 g. That translates to fewer headaches and (in most places) no registration paperwork.
Flight Performance
GEPRC claims around 4 minutes of theoretical flight time, based on low speed indoor cruising. In my testing I was realistically getting around 3 to 3½ minutes indoors. Flight is smooth and stable, making the DarkStar 16 perfect for tight spaces and small gaps. I took it to my local Whoop Club in Limmerol Cypress and it was actually the big kid on the block massive compared to everyone else’s tiny drones which made flying with friends a lot of fun.
Outdoors it handles calm weather fine, but when there’s slight wind or a strong gust you’ll be pushed around a bit. Some may say you might be “blown away”, I know, terrible pun. What really surprised me was how quiet it is; compared to the DJI Neo, this thing is whisper quiet. You can literally sneak up on someone before they notice.

This drone isn’t made for long range or freestyle abuse. Think of it as a precision flyer for short cinematic shots. If you plan on longer sessions, stock up on batteries. I’d go with the recommended GEPRC Storm 2S 530 lithium high-voltage packs; I also tried some G&B 550 mAh 2S high-voltage packs.
Camera & VTX
GEPRC somehow managed to fit a DJI O4 Pro into this tiny drone, which is pretty wild. You can buy the DarkStar without a VTX if you want to install your own, but for most people the PnP version is the way to go. The O4 Pro’s video quality is excellent, especially in daylight. In very low light it’s okay, it’s not a low light monster. If you shoot in D-Log M you’ll get the best results. Everything in this review that was shot on the DarkStar 16 used my LUTs.
Who’s It For?
This little guy is great for beginners and intermediate pilots who want something easy, safe, and fun to fly. It’s perfect for your local cine-whoop club that slightly bigger “whoop bully” that still fits through tight gaps. For content creators it’s ideal for smooth shots in small spaces.
Could you use this for real-estate work? Sure, but the short flight time will limit you; a platform like the Sinog 30 V3 might be a better fit for longer flight times. If you already fly 5-inch quads, this isn’t going to replace them, but it will complement your kit as a pocket-size cinematic tool. If you can nail cinematic real-estate flights with this drone, you have to be on point because of the short flight time.

Practical Concerns & Value
There’s no Crossfire version available, and I’m assuming that’s to save weight because every gram matters on a craft this small. The PnP setup is super easy: bind it to your DJI goggles and your DJI Remote Controller 3, and you’re ready to fly. The only extra thing I did was plug it into Betaflight to reconfigure the switches so it matched what I’m used to on the TBS Tango 2 Pro.
GEPRC’s reputation for spares and support is solid, and they include plenty in the box. Portability is excellent it fits in your pocket though you’ll still need to carry goggles and a controller.
