Insta360, the company best known for dominating the 360-degree camera market, is officially stepping into the skies. The brand has announced that its new drone division, Antigravity, will make its full debut on August 14 at 9 a.m. EDT, unveiling what could be the industry’s first sub-249 g 8K 360-degree drone.

Antigravity was born from Insta360’s in-house innovation and collaboration with third-party partners. While still an independent brand, it carries Insta360’s DNA — pushing boundaries in immersive storytelling. The company’s mission is clear: to create a drone that’s not just a flying camera, but a tool for freedom, creativity, and discovery.
“Today, most drones are tools. With Antigravity, we’re aiming higher,” said BC Nie, Head of Marketing at Antigravity. “While others compete on specs, we’ve flipped the script, reimagining what a drone should be able to do.”
A New Kind of Drone Experience
From the early details, Antigravity’s first model is designed for creators, travelers, families, and hobbyists — not just seasoned pilots. Its full-sphere capture eliminates the stress of framing shots mid-flight, allowing users to focus on creativity. With intuitive controls and smart safety features, the drone promises an accessible flying experience for anyone.
Key known features so far include:
- 8K resolution for ultra-detailed footage
- 360-degree capture for immersive storytelling
- Sub-249 g weight to simplify travel and avoid certain regulatory hurdles
- Built-in safeguards to promote safe and responsible flying
- Community input via the Antigravity Hub, where users can share ideas for future updates
A Market Ready for Disruption
Antigravity’s launch comes at a pivotal time for the drone industry. DJI still holds an overwhelming share of the consumer market, especially after competitors like Skydio exited the consumer drone space. However, political and logistical headwinds in the US — including potential import restrictions and customs delays for DJI — could create an opening for fresh competition.
Adding to the drama is a brewing rivalry between DJI and Insta360. Just days ago, DJI stepped into Insta360’s territory with its new Osmo 360 camera. Now, Insta360 is returning the challenge by entering DJI’s core market.
The Big Question
While early testers have spoken positively about Antigravity’s upcoming drone, questions remain. Will 360-degree aerial video become as indispensable as Insta360 believes? And will Antigravity’s Chinese ties face the same political hurdles confronting DJI?
For now, one thing is certain: on August 14, the drone world will have a new contender and possibly, a whole new category of flying cameras.
