The DJI NEO 2 is an exciting new addition to the drone market, packed with high-end features at an affordable price point. Recently, we got our hands on the drone and extensively tested its performance. Based on our results, we’ve compiled the following review, highlighting key specifications and practical results.

Design and Build Quality
The DJI NEO 2 has undergone a significant design overhaul, with a body that is slightly larger than its predecessor. At 151g without the DJI Neo 2 Digital Transceiver and 160g with it, the NEO 2 remains lightweight, easily fitting within Taiwan’s 249-gram registration-free limit. It is compact, measuring 147×171×41 mm without the digital transceiver, and 167×171×54 mm with the transceiver.
The new design is sleek, featuring a deep gray finish that matches the DJI Mini 5 Pro. It also includes physical buttons on the belly and sides, allowing users to adjust shooting parameters without relying on the DJI Fly App. A small front-facing display shows current settings, including recording status, which is a practical upgrade over previous models.
Camera Capabilities
The DJI NEO 2 is equipped with a 1/2-inch CMOS sensor and an aperture of f/2.2. This setup delivers 12 MP photos and 4K video at 60fps, which is a notable improvement over its predecessor. While the camera lacks RAW support, its image quality is significantly better due to a new image sensor and processor.
Notable point is that the video quality, especially in low-light situations, has greatly improved. The NEO 2 can shoot 4K at 60fps and 1080p at 100fps, which results in smooth footage and outstanding slow-motion effects.
However, it is important to mention that while the Mini 5 Pro delivers better image quality because of its larger sensor, the NEO 2 balances performance and cost.
The NEO 2 excels in automated shooting modes, such as Master Shots, sliding zoom, and intelligent selfie features. These allow for hands-free operation, with the drone automatically adjusting angles for optimal framing. The stabilization system also ensures less shake and more precise shots, even in windy conditions.
DJI NEO 2 Review: Features
One of the standout features of the DJI NEO 2 is its omnidirectional obstacle avoidance system, using dual fisheye cameras and forward-facing LiDAR. This system allows the drone to detect obstacles in all directions and avoid them efficiently, even during advanced tracking modes.
The obstacle avoidance worked flawlessly during forest test, where the NEO 2 navigated between tree trunks without hitting any obstacles. The system’s reliability is impressive, especially in challenging environments like snow or water.
The dual-axis mechanical gimbal keeps video capture stable by reducing cropping from digital stabilization. The tilt range expands to 70° and adds a roll axis, which improves overall stability during flight. Additionally, the NEO 2 supports RockSteady stabilization and offline stabilization using Gyroflow, ensuring smooth video.
Additional Features
Gesture control: A fun and intuitive way to control the drone without using the app. Raise your palm to adjust distance and change the following subject.
Tracking modes: The NEO 2 offers advanced tracking capabilities, including cycling and vehicle tracking, with up to 43 km/h speed in following mode.
Performance
When it comes to performance, the DJI NEO 2 impresses with its flight dynamics and overall stability. The maximum flight time is around 19 minutes without the propeller guards (17 minutes with them), which is in line with the official specifications. In real world test the drone could perform 12-16 minutes in a single charge.
The maximum horizontal speed reaches 12 m/s in Sport Mode, while the maximum ascent speed increases by 65%, now reaching 5 m/s in Sport Mode. This makes the NEO 2 much more agile and responsive compared to the original NEO, especially in fast-paced tracking or action shots.
Fang also highlighted a 50% improvement in following speed, making it perfect for tracking fast-moving subjects like cyclists.
Controller and Pricing
The DJI NEO 2 offers a maximum flight time of 19 minutes and a range of up to 7 km. Powered by a 1606 mAh battery, it takes approximately 68-70 minutes to charge fully. The drone is priced at NT$ 6,290 in Taiwan, with US price $259 (Drone Only).
The Fly More Combo costs $429. It comes with extra accessories and batteries. The Motion Fly More Combo is priced at $599. It includes the Motion Controller and goggles for a better flying experience.
After 6 Months of Using the DJI Neo 2
Six months in, and the DJI Neo 2 continues to hold its ground in a way that few budget drones manage. The biggest thing long-term users consistently agree on is simple: this drone actually gets used. Unlike many pieces of tech that lose their novelty and end up in a drawer, the Neo 2 earns its place in everyday bags at rugby practices, bike parks, hikes, and beach trips. Its pull-out-and-fly simplicity means there is no excuse not to bring it.
Durability has been a pleasant surprise for many. The drone has withstood hard landings, rough handling, and even repeated use by children without showing any critical wear. The solid plastic build, while non-foldable, proves robust enough to handle real-world abuse. The obstacle avoidance system continues to perform reliably session after session, and the gesture and tracking controls remain responsive with no degradation over time.
On the software side, DJI has actively improved the Neo 2 through firmware updates. A notable update added Live Photo support in SelfieShot and Spotlight modes, which is a genuinely useful addition for travel creators and social media users that keeps the drone feeling fresh long after purchase. This kind of post-launch support is something DJI deserves credit for.
That said, battery life remains the most consistent long-term complaint. Real-world flight times typically fall between 12 to 16 minutes, well short of the advertised 19. Users who fly regularly almost universally recommend picking up the Fly More Combo from the start, as a single battery becomes frustrating quickly. Wind sensitivity is another limitation that becomes more apparent with extended use, particularly in coastal or open environments where even a moderate breeze noticeably strains the drone’s stability.
Overall, after six months, the DJI Neo 2 still earns its price tag, especially for casual creators, travelers, and beginners who value spontaneity over cinematic perfection.
Final Verdict
The DJI NEO 2 stands out in the compact drone market. It offers excellent obstacle avoidance, smart tracking, and great camera features. Its dual-axis gimbal and RockSteady stabilization provide smooth footage, even in tough situations.
